WILL NOCK

Founder

Will Nock founded Dayboard Maritime in 2017 to assist Owners, Captains and crew with all aspects of shoreside yacht management.  Prior to founding Dayboard Maritime, Will worked as a Class Surveyor, Flag state inspector and as a Safety & Technical Manager for the Marshall Islands Registry.

After graduating from Massachusetts Maritime Academy, he joined the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and became a Class Surveyor. He was stationed in Asia and the Middle East building and surveying commercial ships until 2008 when he was transferred to Fort Lauderdale and began his career in the yachting industry.

After spending more than a decade performing Class, Statutory, and Flag surveys on ships and yachts, he found that there was a need for a forthright Yacht Management Company whose purpose and goal was to make it easier for the Owner to enjoy their yacht.  As a result, Will took his extensive experience in maritime regulations and vessel operations, and founded Dayboard Maritime.

“My passion for this industry stems from a great respect for each Owner’s success story and a genuine understanding of their yacht related needs.  My biggest passion in life, next to my family of course, is being on my boat anywhere remote and preferably tropical.  So I get that this is a pleasure industry and a yacht is meant to be enjoyed.  Unfortunately, large yachts have been somewhat overrun by regulations as well as some that are willing to take advantage of an Owner – which are not always mutually exclusive.   We are a management company that strives for transparency and honesty and we know the regulations so well that the Owner can simply relax and enjoy their yacht while we take care of the boring stuff.”

When Will isn’t at home he can be found on or in the water around South Florida, the Bahamas, or elsewhere with his wife, son, and daughter.

JOHN W. SMITH

Director of Business Development, DPA/CSO

Building on almost a decade of experience as a Yacht Manager and Company Security Officer, John Smith has now expanded his role to include acting as a Designated Person Ashore.

His tenure in the industry has allowed him to work closely with Captains and crew on vessels of all types and sizes. It all began when he joined the United States Coast Guard (USCG), where he served for twelve years as a Boarding officer.  Here he discovered his passion for working with and providing assistance to Captains and crews to ensure safety and security in both the commercial shipping and yachting industries.

Having had direct experience as a Port State Control Officer, he has been instrumental in working with yachts to help them meet the strict requirements of Port State Inspections, and being a practical support for Captains when questions arise in dealing with security related matters throughout the world.

“I really love working directly with the Owners, Captains and crews in order to help them have a safer and more enjoyable experience.  One thing that has helped me cultivate this is my traveling experiences.  By traveling around the globe, I gained a deep appreciation and respect for the various cultures and traditions of other people. No matter how far you travel, an elementary value that is often spoken, but not lived by often enough, is one that I always remind my kids and remind myself to live by, ‘Treat others as you would want to be treated.’ ”

John and his family reside in Boyton Beach where he spends his free time in and around the “Océane”. He also enjoys spending time with his children on lakes boating and fishing.

Ryan Rabatin

Director of Operations, DPA

Ryan is an accomplished executive with over 15 years of experience in the maritime industry. Prior to joining Dayboard he was the Chief Operations Officer at a South Florida based Yacht Management Firm, where he also held the role of DPA for the fleet. Prior to that, he spent ten years at the Marshall Islands Registry, where he served in various management positions for documentation oversite, marketing, regulatory compliance, corporate development and was the Director of the Fort Lauderdale Office.

“What I am excited most about joining Dayboard is that it’s a company that takes the time to work with the Captain and Crew to create a Safety Management System (SMS) that works for them. Each of the documents are created and crafted alongside the crew. Dayboard does not provide clients with a one size fits all system that many other companies do. We are here to support the Captain and Crew so that everyone makes it back to the dock safely. Using technology to implement a nearly paperless SMS onboard, the crew is freed up to ensure that the owners and guests are taken care of.  We are able to provide big company support with the personalized approach of a small company.”
